INTRODUCTION
As an Ammunition Specialist working in a ASP/SSA you will be involved daily in the turn-in of live
ammunition and recoverable salvage ammunition materiel. In this subcourse we will discuss the
documentation and procedures followed in order to turn-in ammunition and the procedures taken at the
ASP/SSA to edit and prepare documents, reconcile turn-ins against issue documents and post these
documents to the ASP/SSA stock records set. Although in wartime turn-ins of ammunition are greatly
reduced, the procedures followed during wartime are the same as in peacetime. In the simplest terms a
turn-in starts with the preparation of a DA Form 581 (Request for Issue and Turn-in of Ammunition).
The DA Form 581 is then edited at the ASP/SSA by the stock records clerk. The vehicle carrying the
ammunition or salvage materiel is then off loaded, and the items counted and a DA Form 3151
