14. Accountability references. The accountability of government property has always been a problem due to the
vast quantities of supplies required to support the military's operational requirements. Of the ten commodities
in the supply class system, only Class V continues to require 100% accountability. This requirement is based
on the cost and the hazardous nature of Class V items. The two publications which address accountability
are:
a. DA Pam 710-2-1, Using Unit Supply System (Manual Procedures). This pamphlet provides the
procedures for requesting, receiving, accounting for, issuing, and turning in supplies and equipment. DA
Pam 710-2-1 is used for preparing the DA Form 581-the primary document for issue and turn-in of
