(2) Leaky waveguide.
rugged but more difficult to design, is made by cutting slots in a
waveguide. The slots radiate exactly like the slots in a resonant cavity,
and allow energy to leak out of the waveguide. A linear array of this type
is called a leaky waveguide. A leaky waveguide is shown in Figure 165. The
complexity of the system lies in the difficulty of controlling the amount of
radiation from a given slot. In practice, the slots are not as simple as
those shown in Figure 165.
As with the probe-fed dipole array, the
waveguide is terminated in a dissipative termination, the impedance of which
