INTRODUCTION

The telephone set TA-236/FT is a desk type, antisidetone set that provides service in a common
battery system that uses non-polarized ringing current. The set can be wired to provide either dial or
manual service. Wiring facilities are provided to adapt the set to the particular service required. The set
houses a dial, ringer, capacitors, induction coil, hookswitch, balancing network, three-conductor
deskstand cord for connection of the set to the line, and a four-conductor handset cord for connecting the
handset to the set. The set has a control to adjust ringing volume. The line is terminated at a connection
block near the set.

As a 29N telephone central office repairer, you must acquaint yourself with TA-236/FT
telephone set. After you have completed this subcourse, you will be able to identify the components,
schematic components, circuitry and perform preventive maintenance checks, continuity checks, and
final testing procedures on the TA-236/FT.
