TROUBLESHOOT AND FINAL TEST OF THE TA-236/FT TELEPHONE SET
TASK
Troubleshoot and final test of the TA-236/FT telephone set
CONDITIONS
1.
Performance. Given a TA-236/FT, connecting block, communications wire, a telephone circuit
(either a dial central office line or common battery (CB) switchboard (SB-86 circuit), TS-190, wire
cutters, flat-tip screwdriver, TM 11-468 Extracts, and a qualified supervisor/OJT monitor.
2.
Performance-Oriented. Lesson 2 material, pencil, paper, TM 11-468 Extracts, and with no
supervision.
STANDARD
1.
Performance. Demonstrate competency of task skills and knowledge by correctly performing a
preventive maintenance check, continuity check, and final test, within one out of two attempts, of the
TA-236/FT within 20 minutes.
2.
Performance-Oriented. Demonstrate competency of task skills and knowledge by correctly
responding to 70 percent of the multiple-choice Lesson 2 exercise covering troubleshooting and final
testing of the TA-236/FT.

Learning Event 1:
PERFORM PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, CONTINUITY CHECK AND TROUBLESHOOTING
PROCEDURES ON THE TA-236/FT
1.
Situation: Now that the soldier has familiarized himself with the components, schematic
diagram, and circuitry of the TA-236/FT, he must start his troubleshooting procedures. If there is a DA
Form 2407, Maintenance Request attached to the telephone, he can verify the trouble symptom. If there
is no DA Form 2407, a preventive maintenance check would be performed. During the maintenance
check, broken components, wires, and loose terminations may be discovered. After the maintenance
check is performed, the repairer must continue the troubleshooting process by performing a continuity
check using the test equipment available.
