The purging of night vision devices starts with the setup of purge and charging
equipment. The procedures for the setup are outlined in TM 750-116, Chapter 3, paragraph 3-
2.a. These procedures are outlined below: (See Figure 2.)
a. Obtain a tank (7) of dry nitrogen and remove threaded protective cover (6) from the
outlet of the tank. Secure nitrogen tank (7) in upright position. Open tank valve (5) momentarily
to rid valve seat of any foreign matter.
b. Securely attach regulator (2) to tank valve (5) using appropriate adapter supplied with
purging kit if necessary.
c. Securely attach hose assemble (8) to the adapter (9).
d. Rotate pressure regulator valve (4) counterclockwise to the extreme closed position.
e. Open the nitrogen tank valve (5) slowly until the maximum tank pressure is registered
on the high pressure gauge (3). If pressure is below 50 pounds, replace tank.
f. Slowly rotate pressure regulator valve (4) clockwise until approximately 5 PSI is
registered on the low pressure gauge (1). Check for and eliminate any interference; close
pressure regulator valve (4).
