The team chief should ride in the administrative vehicle assigned to the
team and should scout the route. As much as is possible, he should lead his
vans around difficult areas.
c. During operations.
(1) When the team arrives at a supported unit, the team chief should
visit the commanding officer to determine his points of contact, where to
set up and if power is available. Picking the site where the van will be
set up is very important. The van should be near the point where equipment
is processed so that a short haul is required to process the equipment in
and out of the van. Normally this will be in the area of the maintenance
shop.
The team chief will notify his unit of the team's arrival at this
stop.
(2) After vans and power sources are correctly placed, the team will
expand the vans, connect power to the vans, and prepare the work area for
operations.
They will perform their cross-checks before starting
operations, also they will assure that the placement of the VLF antenna is
such that they have a good signal.
The team chief will check with the
commanding and/or billeting officer on billeting and dining facilities for
the team. If rations and quarters are not available, he must locate hotel
accommodations and dining facilities nearby. Nonavailability slips (DD Form
1351-5) must be picked up for each member in the event that rations and/or
(3) The calibration team's working hours are normally governed by the
working hours of the supported unit. On the first day at the unit, the team
chief should discuss with the maintenance officer/NCO equipment processing
procedures to insure an adequate flow of equipment into and out of the van.
This discussion will include:
(a) The requirement for a DA Form 2402 on each piece of TMDE.
(b) The handling of DA Forms 2416 and 2417.
(c) The use and purpose of the team log. This log will show each
item received by the team, when received, when completed, and who picked it
(d) The time frame that each supported unit is allotted.
If
several units are being serviced at one location, the team chief must allot
a percentage of the time for each unit and notify them of this to have a
constant workflow. Do not have all supported units bring all of their TMDE
at one time, as this will place an undue burden on the user.
Also, if
definite time frames are not established, the users will wait until the day
before the team leaves to load it up. As an example, the
