c. A suitable means for observation may be an indirect viewing system
of mirrors or a television camera.
d. A suitable means of transmitting power to the operating device
normally consists of a shaft extending through the shield. The shaft must
have a positive stop in front of the shield to protect the operator in case
of an explosion.
Personnel shall not be exposed in a direct line with a
shaft.

Each disassembly operation work site must be separated from adjacent
similar or dissimilar operations; use operational shields to protect the
operator from the blast and fragments caused by an explosion at any adjacent
operation. Components should be protected from a possible explosion at the
disassembly operation.

The maintenance facility may be equipped with an automatic sprinkler
system or a deluge system.
Check the test records of these systems for
deficiencies.
Properly installed and maintained automatic sprinkler
protection is an important means of reducing fire losses and is justified in
certain buildings.
The following are examples where sprinklers shall be
installed:
a. In certain buildings where there are load lines, explosives
manufacturing, receiving, shipping, inspection, ammunition workshop, and
demilitarization.
b. Where potential loss of life exists.
c. Value of building and/or contents exceeds 0.000.00.

Automatic sprinkler systems will not be deactivated unless repairs or
modification to the system is required.
a. When interruption of the sprinkler protection is required or
deactivation of a system is necessary, the criteria and precautions outlined
in TM 5-695 will be followed.
b. When heating is
a
problem,
wet
systems
should
be converted
to
automatic dry systems.
c. Valve rooms shall be heated during the winter.
9.
In addition to sprinklers, deluge systems should be provided to protect
the operating personnel in high hazard occupancies and other locations where
a possible fire hazard exists, such as pull-apart machines.
a. The
need
for
protecting
other
locations,
including remote
operations, should be determined with full consideration given to personnel
exposures during equipment cleaning,
