They travel in and work from expansible shop vans, but, when better service
can be afforded, or when distance, condition of roads, or other factors
exist which may preclude completion of a calibration itinerary within the
prescribed time period, the control office will arrange for air
transportation for the ATST's.
(2) The ATST's perform calibration and repair at the direct and
general support level.
The test and measuring equipment located at using
unit sites that requires transfer calibration is evacuated to the supporting
maintenance unit for calibration.
The supporting maintenance unit is
responsible for providing its supported units with 7 days advance notice of
the ATST's visits so that their test and measuring equipment requiring
calibration may be evacuated to the supporting maintenance unit.
Under
exceptional circumstances, the ATST's perform calibration at sites of using
units.
(3) Prior to leaving the company on its schedule of visits, the
ATST's transfer standards are calibrated and certified by the secondary
reference facility.
(4) Before starting its itinerary, each ATST is provided a prepunched
calibration working card (Calibration Data Card, DA Form 2416) for each item
of test and measuring equipment it will calibrate. These cards are provided
to the ATST's by the operation office, which obtains them from the
supporting ADP activity.
The calibration working cards will have certain
data annotated thereon; therefore, on its first visit to a supported unit
the ATST will verify accuracy of the data.
The pertinent calibration
working card will be completed by calibration personnel of the team at the
time the equipment is being calibrated. When new equipment is encountered
or when a working card has not been provided, a blank card will be filled
