communications facilities of the supported unit. Before any calibration is
performed, the ATST transfer standards must be cross-checked in accordance
with procedures as outlined in the appropriate technical bulletin (ref TB
9-4931-402-50, sec I, para 2). Calibration and repair is performed within
the calibration vehicles using external power sources, or by removing
standards from the vehicles and performing calibration within the
maintenance shop of the direct or general support maintenance unit.
For
each piece of equipment calibrated or repaired, a calibration data card (DA
Form 2416) will be annotated to indicated the condition of equipment prior
to calibration, corrective action taken, and the results of calibration or
repair. When test and measuring equipment cannot be calibrated or repaired
by the team, it is evacuated to the Calibration Repair Support Center (CRSC)
for repair and return to user.
(6) Calibration personnel attach certification labels (DA Label 80),
in accordance with TM 38-750, or TB 750-25-1, certifying that the instrument
has been calibrated and is within prescribed accuracy.
Correction charts
will be annotated to indicate certified correction figures.
Equipment
beyond the scope of the team to repair or calibrate is red-tagged by
attaching DA Form 2417.
In extreme cases often found under combat
conditions, calibration technicians may find it necessary to declare an item
as having limited use capabilities by annotating DA Label 163 as limited
use.
However, only the unit's maintenance supervisor/commander can
authorize its utilization.
This will permit the unit to utilize the test
instrument within limits until a replacement or repair is accomplished. The
using unit must concur when such action is taken.
(7) During its visit, the ATST will also provide technical advice to
supported units on the use and maintenance of test and measuring equipment.
(8) When the calibration of a supported unit's equipment is
completed, the team chief of the ATST will inform the commander of the
organization or facility whose TMDE was calibrated and will provide a list
of items that were repaired or red-tagged. A similar list will be provided
to the platoon headquarters upon return of the ATST to the calibration
facility.
Before leaving the supported unit's area, the team will again
It will then
proceed to the next unit on its itinerary or will return to the secondary
reference facility to validate the calibration of the supported units'
equipment by having the calibration standards recertified.
(9) Before returning to the secondary reference facility, the ATST
may be required to revisit a specific unit or units to calibrate or repair
equipment on an emergency basis.
Supported units notify the operations
office of the additional support requirements.
