b. In reviewing the training plan, he determines that the task "Defend the Convoy" will be
performed four times. (Refer back to para 4a(1)). The task "Secure, Prepare, and Defend New
Operating Area" will be performed one time. Figure 6 shows that the ARTEP mission "Defend the
Convoy" requires 60 rds of blank 5.56 mm (A080) per weapon, and the second task the same quantity.
It also requires blank .50 Caliber. For the purpose of this lesson we are concerned only with
ammunition for the M16 series rifles. So with 203 rifles assigned, at 100 percent strength, the unit
requires 73,080 rds of DODIC-A080, (203 personnel x 60 rds per weapon = 12,180 rds required per task
x 6 (4 times for 'Defend the Convoy' and 2 times for "Secure, Prepare and Defend New Operating
Areas." Since the training ammunition requirement forecast will be submitted by training event code, the
requirement must be further broken down by training event codes.
c. The submission of the training ammunition requirements forecast for M16 series rifle,
ammunition is as listed below:
A071 - 24,969 rds for Training Event Code-TPQ.
A080 - 24,360 rds for Training Event Code-RIS.
A080 - 24,360 rds for Training Event Code-DFX
A080 - 24,360 rds for Training Event Code-E2.
d. The ammunition requirements in the unit ARTEP manual are guidelines only. The commander
must:
Assess his unit's requirements.
Adjust his training ammunition requirements.
Training area availability, such items as gunfire simulator.
Decrease or eliminate the requirement for OPFOR personnel.
Use subcaliber ammunition or other training aids and devices to conserve his ammunition
requirements.
5. Authorizations preparation. The authorization preparation is the responsibility of DCSOPS.
Authorizations are developed for each MACOM. Because of various factors, there is no automatic
translation of training ammunition requirements forecast into authorization. That is to say, the MACOM
may not receive the quantity of training ammunition forecasted, even though his requirements forecast
were developed and justified.
a. Factors that may influence his authorization include:
(1) The time between fiscal year funding and production delivery.
