What this means is you may reduce the distance by using table 5-5 (fig. 2-23) instead of table 5-10
(fig. 2-22) if the NEW is less than 1,000 pounds. Look at table 5-5 (fig. 2-23), it shows the distance
unbarricaded at 80 feet for 100 pounds NEW. This applies even though table 5-5 (fig. 2-23) is for class
1.1 items and we are dealing with class 1.2.
Let's work one more problem with class 1.2. You need to find the IBD for Grenades, Hand, WP with
a NEW of 550 pounds. Again find the item and class in table 5-21 (fig. 2-24). We find they are listed as
(08) 1.2. Next go to the 1.2 quantity distance class tables 5-11 (fig. 2-25).

In table 5-11 (fig. 2-25) notice the "Pounds of Explosive (Not over)" column. If you have 500,000
pounds NEW or less, the distances apply.
