TMDE USER/OWNER RESPONSIBILITIES.
a. Direct Support.
(1) Direct support units are responsible for assuring the accuracy of
their own organizational TMDE and that of their supported units.
These
responsibilities extend to all items of TMDE that do not require calibration
by the calibration company (e.g., some items, as indicated in pertinent
technical
manuals
and
technical
bulletins,
require
only
a
maintenance/operational check by the maintenance unit against an organic
item
of
TMDE
which
has
been
calibrated
and
certified).
Maintenance/operational checks are accomplished by direct support units in
accordance
with
the
established
in
pertinent
technical
publications and after the repair of supported unit TMDE.
(2) Maintenance
checks
by
a
direct
support
unit
requires
certification and documentation as indicated in TM 38-750. Direct support
units are also responsible for coordinating calibration scheduling with
their supported units, for providing these units notice of scheduled ATST
visits, and for evacuating, to the calibration company, items requiring
calibration by a secondary reference laboratory.
b. General Support.
(1) General and depot support maintenance units have responsibilities
similar to direct support units, except that these units normally repair
TMDE for return to supply stocks rather than to using units.
These units
accomplish operational checks on repaired items, as appropriate, and are
responsible for assuring the accuracy of organic TMDE by performing
operational checks or by having items calibrated by the calibration company.
Again, the provisions of TM 38-750 regarding certification and documentation
apply.
(2) Items of TMDE which require calibration by the use of secondary
transfer standards and items which have been repaired by a maintenance
support unit prior to or during a visit by a ATST will be calibrated by the
team during its visit (provided the item is one that requires calibration by
use of a secondary transfer standard).
The calibration company will also
provide on-call calibration support for items requiring calibration by the
calibration company which have been repaired between visits by secondary
transfer teams when operational requirements preclude calibration delay
until the next scheduled visit by the ATST.
c. Using Units.
(1) Using units include tactical units and other users of TMDE that
are provided direct support maintenance by a maintenance support unit. The
term "supported units" pertains to all units and activities
