INTRODUCTION.
a. As a calibration specialist working in CRC, one of your
responsibilities is to troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment.
This may appear to be insignificant with respect to time devoted to
calibration tasks.
But if you are not proficient in the use of supply
publications and procedures, it could result in you receiving the wrong part
or no part at all.
AR 750-25 and Lesson 1 apply to this lesson.
In addition, the following
apply:
(1) "INSTRUMENT" is used to denote both TMDE and measurement
standards.
When a statement applies to TMDE only, or to measurement
standards only, the abbreviation TMDE or the words "measurement standards"
are used.
(2) "TMDE" is used to denote both general (common) and special
(peculiar) purpose TMDE. When a statement applies to general purpose TMDE
only, the abbreviation TMDE-GP is used. When a statement applies to special
purpose TMDE, the abbreviation TMDE-SP is used.

MAINTENANCE SUPPORT PROGRAM
Repair responsibility.
The following responsibilities are those of
each calibration facility authorized transfer and reference set equipment,
and basically reiterate existing policies and responsibilities with some
measurement standards, and associated equipment is based on a single source
support concept for both calibration and repair.
As a general rule, the
organization assigned the responsibility for calibration is also assigned
the responsibility for repair. The exception is TMDE-SP which is repaired
by the organization responsible for maintaining the system or major item
that is supported by the TMDE-SP. The procedures outlined in this paragraph
encompass preventive maintenance and repair support for instruments.
Unserviceable instruments normally fall into two categories; i.e., an
instrument that becomes inoperative during use, and an instrument that is
being calibrated and is determined to require repair before calibration can
be accomplished.
In the first instance it will be necessary to request
repair support and will probably require evacuation of the instrument to the
support maintenance activity.
In the second instance, the instrument is
turned in for scheduled cyclic calibration, and when found unserviceable, it
will be repaired and calibrated before it is returned to the owner/user.
Procedures for preventive maintenance support of instruments organic to the
unit are as follows:
