The design engineer, the manufacturer, and the Army must all use the same
reference so that we are all talking the same value. The National Bureau of
Standards (NBS) by law establishes all basic measurement values for the
United States. Thereby, all calibrations, Government or civilian, must be
traceable to NBS. Without this traceability to a single source you do not
have a valid reference value.

TOE CALIBRATION ORGANIZATIONS.
a. Calibration Service Company (Tactical Army Support). The mission of
the Calibration Service Company, TOE 9-567 (figure 2), is to provide
secondary reference and secondary transfer calibration service for all test,
measurement, and diagnostic equipment requiring calibration which is used
with Army materiel in depots, and general and direct support units.
b. Organization and Functions.
(1) Organization (fig 2).
The major organizational elements of the
calibration company include a company headquarters, a quality control
section, a control office, a technical supply, a base TMDE repair
