b. Army DS/GS, and tactical units are no longer responsible for
performing calibration. Those items formerly designated level C are now the
Items of TMDE requiring actions closely related to calibration, that are
performed by using units, should be referred to as maintenance functions,
i.e., adjustment, alinement, daily-weekly-monthly checks, etc. For purposes
of clarifying the calibration support mission, calibration is performed only
by the TMDE CRSC.
c. All units are responsible for providing maximum assistance to
calibrate TMDE in an efficient manner, adhering to schedules established by
the CRSC for on site calibration, and transporting or shipping TMDE
requiring calibration.
When scheduled calibration interferes with the
operational mission, rescheduling will be accomplished.
The required
frequency for calibration is published in TB 43-180-1.
Instructions for
calibration of TMDE not listed in TB 43-180-1 are provided in TB 750-25-1.
d. Procedures.
Unserviceable instruments normally fall into two
categories; i.e., an instrument that becomes inoperative during use, and an
instrument which is determined to require repair during the calibration
process.
In the first instance, it will be necessary to request repair
support and will probably require evacuation of the instrument for repair,
calibration and return. In the second instance, the instrument is turned in
for scheduled cyclic calibration, and when found unserviceable, it will be
repaired and calibrated before it is returned to the owner/user.
e. Instrument Owners/Users.
Procedures applicable to preventative
maintenance, repair, and calibration support for instruments are as follows:
(1) Preventive maintenance will be scheduled and accomplished in
accordance with the technical manual (or manufacturer's manual) for the
instrument. DD Form 314, Preventive Maintenance Schedule and Record, will
be maintained and used as outlined in TM 38-750. When locally determined to
be advantageous, accomplishment of organizational maintenance (other than
preventive maintenance) may be recorded in the "Remarks" block of DD Form
314.
When an automated system is used to schedule and record preventive
maintenance, manual records using DD Form 314 are not required.
(2) When an unserviceable item of TMDE-SP is turned in for DS/GS/AVIM
unit repair, a DA Form 2407 will be completed as outlined in TM 750-25-1 and
submitted with the TMDE-SP.
When TMDE-GP or TMDE-SP is turned in for
calibration or repair, the owner/user will complete and tie a DA Form 2402,
Exchange Tag, to each TMDE.
Instructions for completing DA Form 2402 are
contained in TB 750-25-1, section IX.
